Drainage
Drainage theory holds that considerable air travels downward with the water flow. This theory asserts that water flowing in a vertical pipe tends to adhere to the pipe walls, acting very much like a sleeve of water with a hollow core of air all sliding down the pipe walls. When the piping remains vertical, the entrained air is easy to control, but when piping offsets from the vertical, the fluid velocity drops dramatically filling the entire pipe diameter.

Backflow Prevention
A back flow occurs when water flows in the opposite direction that what is desired. This may cause water to mix with waste water or other substances such as chemicals or industrial fluids. This causes an unsafe situation where potable water may be contaminated with harmful materials.

- Annual testing is administered complying with the City of Toronto by-laws.
